Triple Threat v1.4 · Ascension v1.1
Section 1 of 7
The Check Up Competition Manual establishes the official rules, policies, procedures, and governance standards for all competitions operated by Check Up.
The Manual aims to ensure fairness, consistency, transparency, and professionalism in league management and player conduct. It serves as a single authoritative source for all participants. Participants include owners, players, managers, coaches, league officials, and administrators. Understanding and adherence to the Manual are essential for participation.
Check Up focuses on developing a competitive platform for NBA 2K. Aims for transparency in its operations. Strives for professional management to enhance user experience.
Check Up intends to lead in organized NBA 2K competitions. The platform aims to create a sustainable ecosystem featuring leagues, tournaments, rankings, statistics, and competitive growth across game modes. All competitions are expected to maintain professionalism, fairness, and excellence.
All policies, administrative rulings, and decisions must adhere to established guiding principles.
Check Up competitions are managed by the League Office. The League Office enforces rules and maintains fairness. They interpret policies, issue disciplinary actions, and approve transactions. The League Office resolves disputes, with decisions being final unless an official appeal is made.
The Manual governs most competitive scenarios. It may not cover every situation. The League Office will interpret and apply rules for unaddressed issues. Interpretations will be based on the Manual, Competition Principles, league precedent, and fairness. Official interpretations might be included in future Manual updates.
The Manual is applicable to all Check Up competitions. It encompasses different leagues, tournaments, and events. Any differing rules will be published as separate supplements.
The League Office has the authority to modify the Manual as necessary. Modifications aim to maintain fairness, improve operations, or address unforeseen issues. Changes are usually communicated in advance, but urgent updates can be made immediately. Immediate updates are intended to protect ongoing competitions.
This manual is the official Check Up Competition Manual. It overrides all previous rulebooks, announcements, policies, and informal guidance unless explicitly mentioned. It overrides all previous rulebooks, announcements, policies, and informal guidance unless explicitly mentioned.

Preseason (1)

REGULAR SEASON (4) — Commences immediately after the draft, teams compete in Best-of-3 series for league standings, Check Up Cup qualification, and playoff seeding. CHECK UP CUP (5) — In-season tournament; the top 8 teams after Week 1 compete for the title, prize pool, and an automatic playoff berth. PLAYOFFS (6) — Concludes the season with qualified teams in a Best-of-7 single-elimination bracket to determine the Triple Threat Champion.
The official Triple Threat season follows the specified calendar. Any changes will be announced by the League Office.

The Check Up Cup winner earns an automatic playoff spot. If the Cup winner is not in the top 8, they will be positioned in the top 8. All playoff games will be played in Pro-Am. Each series will be Best-of-7. Bracket reseeding will take place after the Quarterfinals.
New this season, Teams can schedule playoff series within the designated windows. Quarterfinals are set for Monday to Wednesday (Aug 10 to Aug 12). Semifinals take place from Wednesday to Friday (Aug 12 to Aug 14). Finals is scheduled for Saturday or Sunday (Aug 15 or Aug 16).
A League Week spans from Monday at 12:00 AM ET to Sunday at 11:59 PM ET. Specific rules and deadlines are established based on this timeframe.
Triple Threat Season (2) consists of three official competition weeks:
Midweek Requirement: Complete a minimum of four required series by Wednesday at 11:59 PM Eastern. Weekly Requirement: Complete all eight required series by Sunday at 11:59 PM Eastern. Non-compliance with these deadlines may lead to forfeits, fines, or additional disciplinary action.

Regular Season: Best of 3 (BO3)
The season concludes after the Finals. Final standings, awards, statistical leaders, and draft positions are confirmed by the League Office.
The League Office has the authority to modify scheduling, competition dates, or procedures before the season starts. Any alterations to the competition format will be communicated before the registration period begins, if possible.
Section 3 of 7
The Regular Season in the Triple Threat Draft League is the main competition phase where all teams compete under uniform rules to determine standings, playoff seeding, statistical leaders, and awards. It focuses on consistent performance, with each week and series impacting overall rankings equally.
The Regular Season exists to:
The Triple Threat Regular Season lasts for two weeks.
Week 1 includes eight required BO3 series played in Pro-Am, with results determining qualification for the Check Up Cup (Top 8).
Week 2 entails competition among eight qualified teams, featuring five mandatory best-of-three (BO3) regular season series and three placement or check-up matches. Each series is equally valued in the official league standings.
In Week 2, eight non-qualified teams must complete eight required BO3 regular season series, with each series having equal value in the official league standings.
Regular Season series are Best-of-3. The first franchise to win two (2) games wins the series. Individual game differential contributes to league tiebreakers. All games must be completed consecutively unless interrupted by an approved administrative decision.
The Check Up scheduling system aims to foster balanced competition. It seeks to reduce administrative workload. Scheduling operates in two independent phases.
Opponent generation is part of the league scheduling software. Criteria for determining opponents include:
Match scheduling occurs in Phase Two after opponents are assigned. Generated match times depend on the availability submitted by franchises. Franchise availability dictates when matches are held, not the opponents faced.
Each franchise must ensure accurate player availability; failure to do so may lead to:
Each League Week ends on Sunday at 11:59 PM ET, unless stated otherwise. Midweek Requirement: Minimum of four (4) required series must be completed by Wednesday at 11:59 PM ET by every franchise. Weekly Requirement: All assigned required series for the League Week must be completed by Sunday at 11:59 PM ET. Non-compliance with either requirement may lead to disciplinary action as specified in
Section 4 of 7
The Check Up Cup is the Triple Threat Draft League's in-season tournament, offering franchises a chance to compete for a title, prize money, and a playoff berth. Unlike the regular season, which values consistency over time, the Cup emphasizes top performance in a single-elimination format, with qualification based on Week 1 results, making early matches crucial.
The Check Up Cup exists to:
Qualification for the Check Up Cup is based solely on Week 1 Regular Season standings. The top eight franchises in the official standings qualify for the Check Up Cup. Qualification is confirmed upon certification by the League Office. Ties are resolved using the official league tiebreakers as stated in
Section 5 of 7
The Triple Threat Playoffs determine the Season Champion of the Check Up Triple Threat Draft League. Following the conclusion of the Regular Season and certification of the final standings, qualified franchises compete in a single-elimination postseason where every series is played as a Best-of-7 (BO7). The Playoffs are designed to identify the league's most complete franchise by rewarding sustained regular season success while requiring consistent performance under postseason pressure. Winning the Triple Threat Championship is the highest competitive achievement awarded during a season.
Determine the official Triple Threat Season Champion. Reward franchises for consistent success during the Regular Season. Provide a fair, merit-based path to the league championship. Showcase the highest level of competition within Check Up.
Eight franchises qualify for the Triple Threat Playoffs The Check Up Cup Champion receives one automatic playoff berth. Remaining berths are awarded based on final certified Regular Season standings. If the Check Up Cup Champion qualifies through Regular Season standings, the automatic berth is not transferred. The next highest franchise in the standings fills the playoff field if needed. Final playoff qualification is certified by the League Office.
Qualified franchises for the playoffs are seeded from #1 to #8. Seeding is based on the official Regular Season standings and relevant tiebreakers. The League Office finalizes all postseason seeding before the Playoffs start. Once the Playoffs commence, the seeding remains unchanged unless altered by an administrative ruling. Final playoff qualification is confirmed only after League Office certification.
The Triple Threat Playoffs utilize a single-elimination bracket consisting of (3) rounds: Quarterfinals (1)
Quarterfinal matchups are determined by playoff seeding. The official bracket is:
Every playoff series is played as a Best-of-7. The first franchise to win four (4) games advances to the next round.
The winner of each playoff series advances to the next round. The losing franchise is immediately eliminated from the Playoffs and Championship contention. There are no second-chance brackets, double-elim rounds, or consolation matches during the Playoffs.
Playoff competition is subject to the highest competitive standards enforced by the League Office. Franchises are expected to:
The League Office shall publish official playoff schedules prior to the postseason. Whenever reasonably possible:
Only players officially rostered and eligible prior to the Roster Deadline may participate in the Playoffs. No franchise may:
Any franchise that fails to appear, refuses to compete, or otherwise fails to complete a scheduled playoff series without League Office approval may be subject to:

Section 1 of 20
The CHECK UP Ascend 5v5 Draft League is a competitive, organized, and fair Pro-Am league. Failure to comply with any rule below may result in fines, suspensions, forfeits, or removal from the league. The league consists of 10 franchises. Ascend runs as a single league table — there are no conferences.
The season is 3 weeks of regular-season play, followed by playoffs. All games are played in 5v5 Pro-Am.
Playoff qualification, seeding, and format are determined by league standings and the official playoff rules below.
Section 2 of 20
fees: Player Entry $20 · Franchise Owner $50 · Personalized Branding Package $75.
Required fees must be paid by the deadline set by league staff. Failure to pay may result in loss of eligibility, removal from draft consideration, or removal from ownership.
By entering, each player confirms they are at least 16 years old and that they own or have authorized access to NBA 2K.
Players may only be rostered on one team per season.
Players must use their registered gamertag(s) unless staff approves a change.
Section 3 of 20
Games are to be played on the platform set by the league commissioners.
If cross-play works, teams may use cross-play. If cross-play is unavailable or unstable, both teams must play on the same platform.
Platform disputes must be reported before the game starts.
Section 4 of 20
format: the regular season is 3 weeks, with 5 required games each week (W1: 5 · W2: 5 · W3: 5). Each team must complete 15 required games.
Every regular-season series is Best-of-1 — one game decides it.
Each team plays every other franchise at least once. Because 15 games cannot divide evenly among 9 opponents, the schedule is a full round robin (games 1–9, everyone once) followed by 6 rematches with home and away reversed. Every team therefore faces 6 opponents twice and 3 opponents once.
Standings tiebreakers, in order: 1) Series Points (1 per series win); 2) Game differential; 3) Head-to-Head record versus the tied opponent; 4) Point Difference.
Section 5 of 20
The top 8 teams in the league table qualify for the playoffs. There is no play-in and no bye — the bracket opens with all 8 teams: 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5.
All playoff rounds are Best-of-3. The Finals are Best-of-5.
The final prize pool is set by total league entries and fees collected, paid out as: Champion 80% of the pool, Runner-up 20%. Within each team's share, 75% goes to the players and 25% to the franchise owner.
Section 6 of 20
Enforced every game. No tempo shooting. The setting must be off in the team's Pro-Am settings.
No shot meter. The setting must be off.
Layup meter is allowed (this is intentional — only the shot meter is banned).
No post scoring or post moves.
Zero tolerance for cheating, exploiting, or game manipulation.
Cheating includes: lag switching, save-state manipulation, build / takeover / animation glitch exploits, controller scripts or macros, mid-series alt accounts, deliberate desync, and any third-party assistance not permitted by NBA 2K's terms. Any player caught cheating faces immediate suspension, match forfeits, and/or permanent removal from the league. Entry fees are forfeit on a cheating removal.
Section 7 of 20
Regular-season series: Best of 1 — one game decides it. Playoff rounds: Best of 3. The Finals: Best of 5.
Every game is first to 21.
Game 1 ball possession is decided by a coin flip. Ball-first alternates each game thereafter.
If a playoff series reaches its deciding game (Game 3 of a Best-of-3, or Game 5 of the Finals), ball-first is awarded to the team with the higher cumulative point differential in the series. If point differential is tied, a fresh coin flip decides. Regular-season series are Best-of-1, so the opening coin flip settles possession outright.
Teams must check in for scheduled matches on the official website at least 15 minutes before tipoff.
Match scheduling: the higher-seeded team proposes the time; the opposing team must accept or counter within 24 hours. If no agreement is reached 48 hours before the scheduled game window closes, the match defaults to Sunday at 8:00 PM EDT.
Late-arrival window: 15-minute grace from scheduled tipoff. Teams not ready to start at the 16-minute mark forfeit the game (and may forfeit the series at admin discretion).
All league games are played in the official CHECK UP Discord server, in 5v5 Pro-Am on the home team's team-specific court with proper jersey and court branding applied.
Section 8 of 20
At least one player per team is required to stream every match.
Team audio (in-game and party chat) must be included in the stream.
Acceptable streaming platforms: Twitch, YouTube Live, or Kick. Minimum 720p60 at 3,500 kbps.
VODs must be enabled for every match stream and must remain publicly accessible for at least 14 days after the match, so disputes and rule reviews have evidence to pull from.
Streams may be reviewed by league admins for rule enforcement at any time.
If the assigned streamer lags out, a teammate must take over streaming. If no teammate is able to stream, the match continues and admin reviews evidence from the opposing team's VOD.
Section 9 of 20
Teams must use their official Ascend jerseys for every match and play home matches on their official Ascend court.
A team must field at least 5 available players to start a game. Falling below 5 mid-series counts as a forfeit for the affected games unless an emergency Fill-In is approved by an admin.
Substitutions are permitted between games of a series. No mid-game substitutions, except when an in-game lag-out leaves a player unable to return (see Lag-Out Rules).
Section 10 of 20
Players not selected during the draft enter the Free Agency pool.
Free agent signings are open during the regular season, with a cap of 1 signing per team per calendar week (Monday 00:00 EDT through Sunday 23:59 EDT).
Roster size is capped — to sign a free agent once the roster is full, an existing roster player must be released first.
Section 11 of 20
Maximum of 1 trade per team per calendar week.
No cash-consideration trades allowed.
Rosters are locked from the start of Week 3 (the final regular-season week) onward. No trades, no free agent pickups, no roster changes for the remainder of the season.
Section 12 of 20
A “lag-out” is any unexpected disconnect, hard freeze, app crash, or lobby drop that removes a player from an in-progress game. First lag-out (per game): the game is restarted from the exact point the lag-out occurred. Both teams are responsible for accurately recreating the score, time remaining, fouls, and any other relevant statistics. If they cannot agree on the state, the most recent broadcast / VOD timestamp is used as the source of truth.
Second lag-out (same game): the affected team must finish the game with an AI-controlled player in the dropped slot.
Third lag-out (same game): the affected team automatically loses that game.
Lag-out counts reset at the start of each new game in a series.
Section 13 of 20
At the end of every season, franchises can carry players forward into the next draft. How many they can keep scales with where they finished. Champion franchise: retains all 5 players from their roster.
Runner-up franchise: retains 3 players, with the option to retain a 4th by forfeiting their 1st-round pick in the next draft.
Every other franchise: retains 2 players, with the option to retain a 3rd by forfeiting their 1st-round pick in the next draft.
Retention selections must be declared to league staff before the next draft begins. Players not retained re-enter the draft pool as free agents.
If a franchise owner has declared themselves as one of the 5 roster slots (see Draft Rules — owner-as-player), the owner-player counts toward the retention cap. A runner-up owner-player retaining 3 means themselves + 2 other players.
Section 14 of 20
Owners have 2 minutes to make each draft selection. If the timer expires, an Auto-Draft Selection is made on the owner's behalf.
Owner-as-player declaration: if a franchise owner intends to play on their own team, they must declare it to league staff in advance. The owner-player occupies 1 of the 5 roster spots and the franchise automatically forfeits its 1st-round pick.
Declaration must be received by league staff before the draft begins. An undeclared owner playing on their own team is treated as a roster violation and may forfeit their entry, at admin discretion. Roster math: the owner-player counts as 1 of 5 roster spots. The franchise fills the remaining 4 via the draft (without their 1st-round pick) and free agency. The penalty applies on participation, not on timer expiry — the franchise forfeits its 1st-round pick regardless of whether picks are made on time. Coach-as-player penalty: if a coach is also playing as a player on their own team, the team forfeits its 1st-round pick.
Coaches receive front-office and scouting access that regular players do not. Dual-rolling as a player creates an insider-information advantage, so the cost is a 1st-round pick the team would otherwise hold. The penalty applies whether or not the coach made the pick on time — it triggers on participation, not on timer expiry.
Section 15 of 20
Optional — but the fastest way to move up a draft board. Participation in the Open Combine is optional.
The Combine includes exhibition games for players to showcase their skills in front of team owners.
Combine participants receive a draft profile containing their stats, performance analysis, and additional scouting information.
Section 16 of 20
Teams are responsible for uploading screenshots of every win, within 30 minutes of the match ending.
Failure to upload proof of victory within the window results in a $25 fine. Repeat offenses escalate.
Screenshots must clearly show the final score, the winning team, and individual player statistics.
Section 17 of 20
League admin has final say on all disputes. There is a defined process for getting your case in front of them. All disputes are filed in the #disputes channel of the official CHECK UP Discord, OR via the dispute form on your team page on checkup.gg.
Disputes must be filed within 24 hours of the disputed match ending. Disputes filed after the 24-hour window will not be reviewed.
Every dispute must include a written description, screenshots, and the VOD timestamp(s) of the relevant moment(s). Disputes without VOD evidence may be dismissed.
League administration reviews disputes within 48 hours and issues a ruling. All admin rulings are final.
Section 18 of 20
Standard conduct enforcement ladder: 1) Warning (first offense, minor); 2) $25 fine (second offense, or any single moderate offense); 3) 1-game suspension (third offense, or any serious offense); 4) Removal from the league (cheating or repeated serious offenses).
Team owners are responsible for ensuring all of their players follow league rules. Fines may be paid by the individual player or by the team owner — payment responsibility is at the owner's discretion.
Unpaid fines are deducted from the team's prize-pool payout at season end. Teams with outstanding fines may be barred from their next match until paid.
Late to scheduled match: $25. Mid-season gamertag change: $10 (admins need updated rosters and stat-tracking continuity).
Section 19 of 20
All players, owners, and league staff are expected to maintain professionalism and sportsmanship at all times.
The following will not be tolerated: toxic conduct, harassment, excessive arguing with players, opponents, or league staff, match manipulation, intentional griefing, and any unsportsmanlike behavior.
League administration reserves the right to make final decisions on all disputes and disciplinary actions.
Section 20 of 20
Entry fees are non-refundable once the first regular-season match of the season has been played. Players removed from the league for cheating or repeated serious offenses forfeit their entry fee.
By participating in the Ascend league, every player and owner acknowledges and agrees to follow every rule listed above.
League administration reserves the right to modify rules when necessary, address situations not specifically outlined in this rulebook, and make final rulings in the best interest of league integrity and fairness.
